Innovation
I designed and crafted the unique “Rabal” and “Raboud”, which combine the sound of traditional Arabic instruments with Cremonese tradition and modern materials.
The Rabal is inspired by the Rababa, a fretless predecessor of the modern string family that is still heard in parts of the Arab world. The instrument can be played by any classically trained cellist, and its resonant, mournful tone is a unique blend of Eastern and Western sounds.
The Raboud is a smaller version of the Rabal, with five strings. It can be played by violinists and violists. It also shares some unique tonal and playing characteristics with the Oud, a Middle Eastern lute that remains popular throughout the Mediterranean.
